Hello guys, after 4 months away from writing my movie reviews I’ve decided to try and make my triumphant return. Last year I found writing reviews quite time consuming towards the end and it took my enjoyment away from the blog and I began to care about it a lot less to the point where I felt like I was writing half-assed and shoddy reviews. While I don’t claim to be a masterful wordsmith, at the very least I wanted to write posts that I was actually happy with and towards the end of last year I just didn’t feel happy with it. Combine that with a lot of big events happening in my life at the turn of the year I just had to step away from reviewing and take a much needed break.
While I’ve decided to reach out and re-enter the world of blogging, I’m going to do it a little differently than I did before. Last year I was only watching movies that I hadn’t seen before and reviewing them almost immediately after the credits finished rolling. This year, again I’m only watching movies I haven’t seen but rather than reviewing every single movie I’ll save my reviews for both the cream of the crop and the true disappointments of the year. Also, every so often I’ll introduce My Tops; where I’ll be listing my top movies of a certain film genre, top movies from a certain actor/actress, top movies from a specific director etc. I’ll be more than happy to take requests from anybody if you have a category you’d like me to delve in to so please fire away in the comments and I’ll keep a note of your suggestions and try and make it happen down the line.
So now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk movies that I’ve seen so far this year. I’ve managed to watch 64 movies so far in 2019 with the latest one being The Woman In Black, which was really, really awful. Everything about it was so routine and one dimensional and Daniel Radcliffe was horribly mis-cast in a genre that he really doesn’t seem suited for. Rather than list off all the movies that I’ve seen this year I’ll just tell you my top 5 and bottom 5 so you guys can kind of see what sort of movies I’ve been watching so far.
1. Wonder (2017)
2. Million Dollar Baby (2004)
3. Get Out (2017)
4. Only the Brave (2017)
5. The Rainmaker (1997)
1. Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief (2010)
2. The Woman in Black (2012)
3. Murder Party (2007)
4. The Running Man (1987)
5. Winchester (2018)
Just a quick note on Wonder. If you haven’t seen it then please go and watch it, it’s available on Netflix and reminds me of a modern day version of Mask, which was one of my favourite movies from last year. It’s packed full of emotion and really tugs on your heartstrings throughout as Jacob Tremblay is truly excellent in the starring role alongside Hollywood stars Owen Wilson and Julia Roberts. It’s a beautiful film that is packed with a meaningful and valuable message about acceptance. I assure you that you won’t be disappointed and if you are then I’m not sure if we can be friends ^_^
Anyway, enough of me rambling on, thank you for your patience and see you again real soon.
